About EAM
My interest in firearms and shooting sports began when my father introduced me to them
at an early age. I have had the bug ever since. During college, where I earned a degree
in Mechanical Engineering, my interest in competition shooting and wildcat calibers began.
Being on a limited budget, as most college students are, I realized that I was going to have
to do most of the gunsmithing myself; So, I set out to learn how.
Just prior to my college career, I had worked as a civilian apprentice with the US Army,
where I spent most of my time with the resident machinist. Therefore I already had gained
most of the machining skills that gunsmithing requires. However, I lacked the firearm specific
knowledge. I read everything I could get my hands on about gunsmithing and wildcat calibers
and set out to work on my own projects.
After college I joined a local, private gun club. I spent a good amount of time at
the range tinkering and testing. During this time several of the other members of the
club encouraged me to start gunsmithing for the public, but I resisted. After a few
years of gentle encouragement, I looked into the difficulty of obtaining an FFL. It was
not as difficult as I had originally thought. I sent in the paperwork and four months
later I was a licensed dealer and gunsmith. I now build hunting rifles, tactical rifles,
AR15's, turkey shoot guns, etc. and perform maintenance and repair on all types of firearms.
Sincerely,
Eric Ashley Michael
